Wow this was absolutely terrible If I could give this zero or negative stars I would It's possible zero or negative stars is a bit unfair due to my high expectations for this book from reading Prisoner B 3087 by the same author However given the lack of character development the lack of believability and general poor writing I think zero stars is actually uite fairI think the author thought that he was writing the screenplay for a spy action movie A bad spy action movie complete with a larger than life unbelievable climactic fight between the main character and the villain Except the main character and villain are 13 which makes this unbelievable fight absolutely ridiculous The main character Michael was just too young and HORRIBLE at being a spy to be believable in any way and he had too many convenient for developing plot and creating conflict character traits photographic memory fear of heights and excellent fighting skills for example I got incredibly sick of Michael repeating If I do I'll be caught Nazis are the most evil human beings on earth and I am repulsed by them would a 13 year old really have the strength of mind and character to feel this way Is that an accurate belief for the time Perhaps but how Gratz developed the character just didn't make these sentiments believable and Why does Fritz want to be in the SS so badly I must get to the bottom of this I also got tired of everysinglechapter ending on a cliffhanger It just made each short chapter's events seems manipulative as if the author was trying to get the reader to the next cliffhanger as fast as possible This took me a long time to read because I kept putting it down and forgetting to go back to it Normally I would have abandoned it but I forced myself to keep reading because many of my students love Prisoner B 3087 and want something similar It's possible that the nuances of character development and believable plot will be lost on 6th graders who just want a good action story but for my good conscience as a reader I will be offering not warmly recommending this to my students with a hefty grain of salt

Projekt 1065PiesMichael despises everything the Nazis stand for But he joins in the Hitler Youth's horrific games and book burnings playing the part so he can gain insider knowledgeWhen Michael learns about Projekt 1065 a secret Nazi war mission things get even complicated. An action packed tension filled WWII novel aimed at middle school and younger high school Readers I enjoyed this one a lot than Allied because the young James Bond vibe made for an entertaining adventure Readers will be treated to a mash up of a lot of WWII elements I think it is important for young Readers to listen to the author's notes at the end as it gives the historical context for this fictional story The difficulties Michael faced blending in with his fellow Hitler Youth whilst trying to sabotage them from within made for some tense moments as he was nearly exposed on several occasionsI will be adding the following comment in all of my reviews of Alan Gratz's booksAuthors like Alan Gratz who capture the interest of ‘reluctant readers’ are really important I also love that his novels have been made into audiobooks so his engaging stories are accessible to those with learning differences I think we can all appreciate that if you are after some historically detailed WWII literature then you may be left wanting I choose to enjoy Alan Gratz’s books as 'introductions' to an important period in our world's history
